Native American Sioux village after Wounded Knee.1891
Taking a stand at Wounded KneeIn December of 1890, the Lakota people of the Sioux tribe, led by Sitting Bull were participating in a ritual called the Ghost Dance. A group of people were captured by the US Military. Sitting Bull was among the captives, he was arrested and killed for leading the tribe in the ritual. The Sioux tribe took a stand against the American soldiers because they refused to stop their ritual after being told many times to stop.
Soldiers came in after capturing and killing around 350 Sioux tribe members. 160 Sioux tribe members were sent to fight. there was an accidental firing on a gun. People are not sure who fired the gun but most think it was Black Coyote since he was on of 3 people who owned a gun on the Native American side. |
